Happy International Women’s Day!

The International Women’s Day 2017 Campaign calls us to #BeBoldForChange. They offer ideas for ways we can take action, and Wisteria is choosing to celebrate women’s achievements. In an effort to do so, we want to introduce you to a few of the wonderful women from the Wisteria team and highlight what they consider some of their biggest achievements!

Jennifer Niehaus (Vice President, Merchandising):
My biggest accomplishment is my two year old daughter, Harper.  Every day I am so proud to be her Momma.  Being a parent isn’t easy, and I hear it only gets harder as they get older, but for now I think I am doing a pretty good job teaching her that she is smart and beautiful, but the most important thing is that she is kind.  Even though she is only two, when I watch her interact with the world, I can’t help but be proud of the job I’m doing! Like everyone, I am always balancing work, parenting, relationship, friends, and time for myself.  But over the past few years, I feel like I let go of the guilt that comes with trying to find that balance. I am not sure what caused that shift for me, but I feel like it’s an accomplishment to not only chose where I spend my time, but even more importantly, to be okay with where I chose NOT to spend my time.

Tessa Mugica (Vice President, Design and Marketing): My biggest achievements are learning to listen to and follow my deepest intuition, and being able to forgive, accept, and love myself completely. My imperfections and mistakes are a part of who I am, and I’ve learned to love them!

Pret Diffie (Senior Art Director): That’s easy: My biggest achievement is with my husband, raising 2 sons to be productive citizens and darn good people. Except that, on second thought, I only had a partial role, because they were “grown” by each other, by amazing teachers, by other family members, and by friends. So truthfully the achievement is not really mine. Very very distant second: Running my own very robust business for 25 years.

Sanaa Nasir (Associate Director, Buying and Development): My immigrant parents came to this country almost 40 years ago to give themselves and their eventual children a better life. By having the opportunity to be educated, go to college and work hard, I feel like I have been able to seize their purpose for leaving home, and that makes me feel happy.

Alicia Taylor (Design & Hospitality Program Manager): One of my biggest achievements is graduating from the University of North Texas this past December, finishing a degree I started long ago, and taking 30 students to Cuba on a study abroad program while developing relationships with the people of the University of Havana.

Lauren Paz (Marketing Project Manager): One of my biggest achievements is helping successfully launch an entertainment news site, interviewing numerous celebrities without putting anyone to sleep. Also, happily and successfully raising two quirky fur babies.

Michaela Andrade (Store Buyer): One of my biggest accomplishments is taking a risk and moving back to Texas from NYC even though people thought we were making the biggest mistakes of our lives. Last year we became home owners, and we have a piece of Texas that is all our own. Also, traveling abroad will always be a great achievement for me because not everyone gets the opportunity.

Tori Hunger (Assistant Buyer): One of my greatest achievements thus far was finding my other half to share in this life. It seems such a small thing at face value but being able to not only share life with someone, but to learn and grow from each other has made life more valuable. We have constantly taught and challenged each other to love more fiercely, grow through our struggles, and seek God through it all. Every day is a day to be better, love harder, and live life to the fullest. We have much more to achieve as individuals and as a couple but together we will achieve more than we ever would apart.

Destiny Bickel (eCommerce Marketing Associate): My biggest accomplishments in the past year have been securing employment before graduating college, graduating from the University of North Texas, and moving out on my own. Oh! Also, learning how to drive manual transmission on my car.

Insider Style: Coastal Mantels

Earlier this year, we asked three employees to help us out with one of our summer photo shoots. Each got to style the same mantel any way they wanted. The looks they came up with are unique and charming.

Which mantel most resembles your style? Recreate any of these looks or build your own coastal inspired mantel by shopping all our coastal products here.

Now it’s time to get to know the employees behind our Coastal Mantel photo shoot!

Coastal Mantle 1

Spotlight On: Kayla, Marketing

Tell us a bit about what inspired this design. I love the color combo of blue and white. It’s very typical of coastal looks, but I also wanted to add pops of other colors. I’m always looking for creative ways to display my jewelry—our Floating Coral Shelves worked perfectly!

Describe your style in three words. Colorful, trendy, and preppy.

Where is your dream summer vacation spot? St. John—snorkeling, sun bathing, and sipping piña coladas!

What is one design tip you think everyone needs to know? Pile on the pillows! They’re an easy and affordable way to add texture and color to any room.

Coastal Mantle 2

Spotlight On: Joe, Merchandising

Tell us a bit about what inspired this design. I recently bought a house on the water and I am excited to get back into sailing, hiking, and enjoying Nature. This mantel is inspired by the casual, natural lifestyle that I love.

Describe your style in three words. Eclectic, neo-tradtional, and clean.

Where is your dream summer vacation spot? I love the artistic town of Ubud in Bali. The beauty of the architecture and terraced rice fields, the intriguing sounds of the gamelan, the colorful temple dances, and the delicious food all add up to a gorgeous vacation.

What is one design tip you think everyone needs to know? Every room should have something unexpected.

Coastal Mantle 3
Spotlight On: Stephanie, Design and Product Development

Tell us a bit about what inspired this design. I love the beach and this reminds me of the coast.

Describe your style in three words. Simple, casual, and playful.

Where is your dream summer vacation spot? Anywhere with white sand, crystal clear water, and scuba diving.

What is one design tip you think everyone needs to know? To not be afraid of design or get hung up on rules. Just have fun with styling. I love mixing materials and textures like I’ve done here with glass, bone, and wood.
