Non Profit Friends

Nonprofit Friend: Methodist Children’s Home (Costa Rica)

Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica is a faith-based nonprofit that helps address the problem of homeless children and overcrowded institutions in San Jose. Ray and Lidia Zirkel, long-time Methodist missionaries in Costa Rica, started this extension of Methodist Children’s Home to address these issues.

In 2006, the Zirkel family was able to purchase a small farm located in Patio de Agua, Coronado. The property has access to public roads, water, and utilities. In 2011, the first home was opened to house children who would otherwise be homeless. Methodist Children’s Home of Costa Rica has a vision to build five homes, a multi-purpose building, an open-air chapel, a soccer field, a basketball court, and a playground. Since its founding, they have been able to provide a nurturing family home for children who would otherwise be without support.

Nonprofit Friend: Adera Foundation

The Adera Foundation works with Christian individuals and organizations to bring meaningful improvement to people’s lives in Africa. In the Ethiopian language, Adera means “take care of it.” Where there is a need and where there is a desire to help, Adera steps in to help make connections—taking care of the challenges facing individuals and communities in Ethiopia. Using their resources and connections, Adera assists individuals and organizations in making the biggest impact possible in Ethiopian communities.

Wisteria Non Profit Friend: AderaSince its founding in 2009, Adera has overseen many projects from child and family sponsorship programs to the building of schools and soccer fields. They also work closely with daycares and orphanages in Ethiopia, fighting for their goal of orphan prevention—preserving the family unit by providing work opportunities, training, and child care for vulnerable families.

Whether providing food for children or assisting companies in sponsoring an entire village, Adera works tirelessly to bring the best of intentions in meaningful, life-changing contact with the deepest needs. In real and practical ways, Adera lends a helping hand to individuals and communities. When this organization takes on a task or confronts a problem, be sure they will “take care of it.”

Below are images of a few of the mothers and children that are helped through the Korah Daycare and Feeding Program located in Ethiopia. The daycare allows these moms to keep their children and relinquish from the far too typical act of turning their children over to the government orphanage for daily sustenance and stability. Adera helps provide two meals a day, preschool training, baths, clean clothes, clean water, medical assessment. The daycare also provides training for the moms and is working to develop income generating activities that will help to not only sustain the families, but to develop long term sustenance for the future generations of Ethiopia.

Nonprofit Friend: The Parents Circle – Families Forum

The Parents Circle | Non Profit Friend | Wisteria

The Parents Circle – Families Forum (PCFF) is a joint Israeli–Palestinian organization made up of more than 600 bereaved families. Established in 1995 by Mr. Yitzhak Frankental and several bereaved families, amidst ongoing violence, the members of this organization—all who have lost a family member to the conflict—have taken a joint effort to transform their incredible loss and pain into a catalyst for reconciliation and peace. Operating from two offices, one in Israel and one in the West Bank, the PCFF promotes education, public awareness, and advocacy projects that foster humanization and empathy towards both Israeli and Palestinians.

Most of its members agree that the solution lies with the “leadership of both sides to ensure basic human rights, the establishment of two states for two peoples, and the signing of a peace treaty.” The Parents Circle – Families Forum believes the “historic reconciliation between the two nations is a necessary condition for obtaining a sustainable peace treaty.”

Nonprofit Friend: Juntos Servimos; Help us give back

Juntos Servimos | Wisteria Non Profit Friend

Sometimes all a child needs to live fully is so clear and so simple—medication, surgery, school supplies, clothes, and a little extra help with studying. Yet for many families in Matamoros, Mexico, these are often out of reach without the help of the Casa Bugambilia community, supported by Juntos Servimos—meaning Together We Serve. In 2003, Dr. Nancy Rodriguez and Larry Cox, who have remained focused on providing care for the families and children facing extreme poverty, founded Casa Bugambilia. Juntos Servimos organizes efforts to provide food, shelter, healthcare, and education for these children, so they are able to realize their full potential. We are happy to support Juntos Servimos in their special mission.

Give 10/Get 10: Juntos Servimos; Help us give back

Our mission is simple:

“Wisteria exists to make the world a better place by selling products that have meaning and beauty.”

Since we started Wisteria 14 years ago, we’ve profiled a different nonprofit organization every month and contributed financially to their success. We’ve supported over 110 different causes in the U.S. and around the world. But we want to do more. That’s why we’ve started our newest effort, “Give 10, Get 10.

Monday, November 10th, we’ll give 10% of your entire purchase to Juntos Servimos, an amazing organization that serves to help families in need of medical treatment in Matamoros, Mexico. And to thank you for your good deed you’ll get 10% off your purchase (give 10, get 10 (Give 10, Get 10–get it?). When we chose to support the good folks at Juntos Servimos for the month of November, we asked them how we could help. We need a van, they said. Why, you might ask? Amongst many of their outreach efforts, Juntos Servimos helps people in situations where they don’t have access to proper medical care and treatments. Since many of them cannot walk, a van is imperative to transport those in need to health care facilities. Their current vehicle has over 200,000 miles and is potentially unreliable.

So Monday, November 10th, please join us in our effort to make the world a better place. Or if you want to support them directly, go to juntosservimos.org. Together we can accomplish great things.

Sincerely,

Signature gray

Andrew Newsom
